As a Hawaiian student at Kamehameha schools, we are taught to respect, love, and take care of the land. We are on this earth to give back to the ‘āina. We are taught to be proud of who we are, and where we come from, because that is a huge part of our culture. One of my favorite quotes is “He Hawaii au mau a mau” meaning, “we are Hawaiian, now and forever”.
My name is Adam Kūpa‘aikeola Cobb. My Hawaiian name means to be strong and determine in life. This name is unspeakably accurate because I am a very hard worker, and I will not give up on anything until the job is done right. I am from Kailua O‘ahu, and currently still live in Kailua. To me Kailua isn’t just the place I call home, but it will be the place I can always come back to if I’m lost in life. The wind that is associated with Kailua is called Malanai, which means gentle breeze. The rain associated with Kailua is called Ua Kaniko‘o which means cane tapping rain. Kailua is a special place to me because I am able to represent my home, and Kamehameha schools has taught me that. I have been at Kamehameha since kindergarten, and I can honestly say that I wouldn’t rather attend any other school. I am very lucky to have gotten in to this school, and I would never take that for granted.
